Uliana Hauk
Uliana Hauk was born in Kyiv in 2006. She entered the Ukrainian Physics and Mathematics Lyceum in 2021, where she is now finishing her last year of high school.
Uliana has won prizes in Kyiv regional Olympiads in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. In 2023, she won the second prize in the All-Ukrainian Olympiad in Astronomy and also participated in the All-Ukrainian Olympiad in Chemistry. In 2023, Uliana also took part in the selection for the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics 2023.
Uliana's main field of interest is Astronomy. In the summer of 2023, she participated in the Astronomy Battles - a team competition organized by the Ukrainian project AstroSandbox.
In ninth and tenth grades, Uliana applied with her team to the Students Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) (Missions 16 and 17 to the ISS) of the National Center for Earth and Space Science Education (NCESSE). Her research topics were The effects of microgravity on Calcium oxalate crystals in sorrel cells and Cyanobacteria as a stable energy source for space traveling.
In summer 2023, Uliana and a group of students were invited to visit New York City. She participated in the Science for Ukraine Summer School that took place at the City University of New York, the City College Center for Discovery and Innovations (CDI), and the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) location. She had an opportunity to visit and work in the laboratories of the faculty members of the ASRC and CCNY. Under the supervision of the faculty member, Uliana and her team carried out research. The research topic was The study of the crystal growth of MOF in solution.
This year, she is participating in the All-Ukrainian Young Physicists' Tournament.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Uliana has been engaged in different kinds of volunteering activities.
Uliana enjoys dancing, drawing, photographing, and cooking in her free time. She was a part of the Galaxy Dance dancing team for nine years. Together, they won national Ukrainian and international competitions.
In the future, Uliana wants to study and work in the area of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
